OVERVIEW

Scientific Dictionary Package™ (SDP-WIN32) Version 2.0 for Microsoft Windows is a comprehensive scientific spell check program for the life, physical, and applied sciences. It augments the Microsoft Office spell checker with a database of over 1.8 million terms from the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM), the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), and several technical databases from Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA). SDP 2.0 comes equipped with multiple custom spell check dictionaries, categorized by content, for example, chemical terms, author names, etc. After installing SDP, the user selects the SDP databases to be activated. Once activated, the SDP databases are automatically added to the native Microsoft Office spell checker and are called whenever the spell checker is used in any Office program. The advantages of SDP are 1) it eliminates false errors by recognizing scientific and technical terms not recognized by Microsoft Office, 2) identifies misspellings of scientific and technical terms, and 3) saves countless hours of proofreading time and improves manuscript quality.

The SDP database contains over 1.8 million entries and includes:

• Biology, medical, chemical, physics, computer science, agricultural, and engineering terms (New!)
• Scientific author names
• Journal titles and abbreviations
• Scientific names of organisms (genus & species)
• Restriction enzymes
• Drug Names
• Company names (scientific supply companies)

• MeSH^® (Medical Subject Headings – US National Library of Medicine's (NLM) controlled vocabulary thesaurus)
• ChemIDplus^® (NLM's comprehensive database of chemicals and drug names)

SDP language support:

SDP supports all languages installed in Microsoft Office.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The following are required for successful installation of SDP:

• 80 MB hard drive space
• Minimum 512 MB RAM recommended for optimal software performance
• Microsoft Office 2000 (Word 2000), XP (Word 2002), 2003 (Word 2003), 2007 (Word 2007)
• Microsoft Windows: 98, 98 Second Edition, Millennium (ME), NT 4.0 Workstation, 2000 Workstation, Windows XP, and Windows Vista
