sciPROOF BETA for MACINTOSH

Goal

The goal of the current step (SMAC 2005.12.06) is to test the installation/uninstallation and primary features/functions of sciPROOF^® Beta v.1.0.16 for Macintosh.

Tools

To complete this step, you will need the following components:

• One of the following Macintosh OS X installed:
  • Mac OS X v.10.2 (Jaguar) / Darwin 6.0
  • Mac OS X v.10.3 (Panther) / Darwin 7.0
  • Mac OS X v.10.4 (Tiger) / Darwin 8.0
• Microsoft Office X (2001) or Microsoft Office 2004 for Macintosh installed. We assume that Microsoft Office was installed to a default location (Applications:Microsoft Office 2004 OR Applications:Microsoft Office X) when referring sciPROOF files in the text. If your Microsoft Office is installed in a different location, then please notice that you need to use "your" custom paths.

Test items

To complete this step, you will need to perform the following tasks:

1. If the previous sciPROOF version is installed, please uninstall it and make sure that the SciProofRoutines.dot file is removed from the following locations:
   • Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Office:Startup:Word:SciProofRoutines.dot for Microsoft Office 2004 users.
   • Applications:Microsoft Office X:Office:Startup:Word:SciProofRoutines.dot for Microsoft Office X users.
2. Check for components from previous version. Start Microsoft Word and check to be sure that:
   1. No sciPROOF toolbars / buttons / menus are installed.
   2. The sciPROOF Dictionary is not shown in the list of custom dictionaries (Word > Preferences > Spelling and Grammar > Dictionaries).
3. Download sciPROOF Beta v.1.0.16 for Macintosh and save it locally.
4. Check installation: Start installer and proceed with activation to complete the installation. Successful Installation will include the following:
   1. "PostInstallDocument" will open automatically.
      • During this step, the warning "The document you are opening contains macros or customizations." may be displayed. In this case, choose the "Enable Macros" option.
   2. The sciPROOF toolbar with "About sciPROOF" and "Test Document" buttons will be installed.
   3. The sciPROOF Dictionary should be shown in the list of custom spelling dictionaries (Word > Preferences > Spelling and Grammar > Dictionaries).
   4. The "SciProofUninstall" application icon will be placed on your desktop.
5. Check the main functionality:
   1. Click the "About sciPROOF" button to activate a dialog that contains a description of sciPROOF^®.
   2. Click the "Test Document" button to open the sciPROOF^® Test Document. Activate the spellchecker (Word > Tools > Spelling and Grammar) and follow the instructions in the Test Document.
6. Check uninstallation: Start the "SciProofUninstall" and proceed with uninstallation. After successful uninstallation, please open Word to check that the sciPROOF toolbars and spelling dictionaries are removed.

Results

Please send your results to info@sciproof.com, with Beta Testing Report - SMAC 2005.12.06 in the subject line, and please do not forget to provide the following information:

• Your name and e-mail address.
• Your beta-testing report.
• Your version of Mac OS and Microsoft Office

IMPORTANT: If any of the test items failed, please let us know and provide the following sciPROOF logs files with your report:

• Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:SciProof_logfile.log (for Office 2004 users.) OR Applications:Microsoft Office X:SciProof_logfile.log (for Office X users).
• /tmp/SciProof_preflight.txt
• /tmp/SciProof_PostInstallLauncher.log

NOTE: The "/tmp" folder can be located via the following: Start the "Finder" application, open the "Go" menu and select the "Go to Folder" item. In the opened dialog, type '/tmp' and click the "Go" button.
