Goal
The goal of the current step (SDP-WIN32 2007.01.23) is to check/test Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.2.0.8 for compatibility with Microsoft Office 2007 (Microsoft Word 2007), overall functionality, and the SDP protection/activation mechanism.
Tools
To complete this step, you will need the following components:
- One of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems installed:
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows Millennium (ME)
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 WorkStation
- Microsoft Windows 2000 WorkStation / Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional/Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
- Microsoft Windows Vista (any release edition)
We assume that all of the latest service packs and security updates are installed for your operating system.
- One of the following versions of Microsoft Office installed:
- Microsoft Office 2000 (Word 2000)
- Microsoft Office XP (Word 2002)
- Microsoft Office 2003 (Word 2003)
- Microsoft Office 2007 (Word 2007)
We assume that your version of Microsoft Office was installed to the default location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office). If it was installed in a different location, you will need to use "your" custom paths.
- Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.2.0.8 for Microsoft Windows. Please click here to download sdp-win32-beta-0.2.0.8.exe (5.35 MB).
- The latest version of the Diagnostic Utility for SDP . Pease click here to download du-sdp-2.0.1.6.exe (388 KB) file.
- The SDP online key generator for beta testers (USE FOR MANUAL ACTIVATION ONLY).
Test items
To complete this step, you will need to perform the following tasks:
- If a previous version of Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta is installed, please do not uninstall it. The installer of the new version should detect the old version ("Previously Installed Version" page will be shown just after the "welcome" page of the installation) and uninstall it automatically.
- Download Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.2.0.8 for Microsoft Windows (sdp-win32-beta-0.2.0.8.exe) and save it locally.
The first start up of the SDP installation (time elapsed after you start the installation and before the fist "Welcome" page appears) may take several seconds if:
- You have a fresh installation of Microsoft Office 2007 (a previous version of Microsoft Office was not installed on your computer).
- A previous version of SDP has never been installed on your computer.
- You manually removed SCIPROOF LLC VBA codesigning digital certificates from the "Trusted Publishers" store.
During this delay, a minimized window of Microsoft Word may be present on the task bar for several seconds.
- Start installation, proceed with activation, and finish setup of Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.2.0.8.
IMPORTANT : After successful installation, an SDP warning message should appear when opening Word. This message indicates that the SDP dictionaries need to be activated.
- Start Microsoft Word and verify that the UI elements were installed properly.
- For Word 2007 users: Find the "Custom Toolbars" pad on the "Add-Ins" tab of the ribbon. There should be four SDP buttons on the "Custom Toolbars" pad.
- For Word 2000, 2002 (XP) and 2003 users: The "SDP" toolbar is on the Word toolbar with four SDP buttons.
- Check each SDP button on the SDP toolbar. Verify the following functionality of each SDP button:
- Click the "About SDP" button to activate the dialog that displays a description of SDP. This dialog should show the installed version of SDP. It must be v.0.2.0.8. Close this dialog.
- Click the "SDP Home" button and open the www.sciproof.com home page
- Click the "Example Document" button (from the SDP "toolbar") to open the SDP Test Document.
- Click the "SDP Options" button and open the SDP Options dialog.

- On the "Word Options" dialog, please select/click the "Proofing" item on the side bar to display page with spelling and grammar settings.

- SDP-Total.Abbrs... under "All Languages" hive.
- SDP-Total.Words... under the language you selected in the "SDP Option" dialog. For example, under the "English (U.S.)" hive.
Close all dialogs and go back to Word.
- Activate the spellchecker and follow the instructions in the Example Document. To activate the spellchecker
- Word 2007 users should click "Review" (item on the ribbon) > "Proofing" pad > "Spelling & Grammar" button or press F7 button.
- Word 2000, 2002 (XP) and 2003 users should go to TOOLS > Spelling & Grammar or press F7 to activate Word’s spellchecker.
- Close Microsoft Word.
- Start uninstallation. NOTE: Microsoft Word 2007 users need to check "Remove deleted custom dictionaries from the list" option, and proceed with uninstalling Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.2.0.8.
- Start Microsoft Word and check if all SDP custom dictionaries are removed. To check this,
- Word 2007 users should click the "Office button" > "Word Options" > "Proofing" > "Custom Dictionaries..." button to open the list of custom dictionaries.
- Word 2000, 2002 (XP) and 2003 users should go to TOOLS > Options > Spelling & Grammar tab and click the Custom Dictionaries button.
The following dictionaries should not be there:
- SDP-Total.Abbrs... dictionary.
