Goal
The goal of the current step (SDP-WIN32 2006.06.20) is to test the installation/uninstallation and primary features/functions of SCIPROOF Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.0.1.12 for Microsoft Windows.
Tools
To complete this step, you will need the following components:
- One of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems installed:
- Microsoft Windows 98 (SE)
- Microsoft Windows ME
- Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 WorkStation
- Microsoft Windows 2000 WorkStation / Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional/Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Server
We assume that all of the latest service packs and security updates are installed for your operating system.
- One of the following versions of Microfsoft Office installed:
- Microsoft Office 2000
- Microsoft Office XP (2002)
- Microsoft Office 2003
We assume that your version of Microsoft Office was installed to the default location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office). If it was installed in a different location, then please notice that you need to use "your" custom paths.
- SCIPROOF Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.0.1.12 for Microsoft Windows. Please click here to download the sdp-win32-beta-0.0.1.12.exe (452 KB).
- SCIPROOF Diagnostic Utility for SDP . Pease click here to download du-sdp-2.0.1.0.exe (380 KB) file.
Test items
To complete this step, you will need to perform the following tasks:
- If a previous version of Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta is installed, please uninstall it and make sure that the SDPStartUp.dot file is removed from the STARTUP locations:
- C:\Documetns and Settings\<username>\Applications Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\ for Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 users.
- C:\Windows\Applications Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\ for Microsoft Windows 98, 98 Second Edition, and ME users.
- Check for components from previous a version. Open Microsoft Word and check to be sure that:
- No SDP toolbars / buttons / menus are installed.
- The SDP Dictionaries are not shown in the list of custom dictionaries (Word > TOOLS > Options > Spelling and Grammar > Custom Dictionaries).
- Download SCIPROOF Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta v.0.0.1.12 for Microsoft Windows (sdp-win32-beta-0.0.1.12.exe) and save it locally.
- Check installation. There are several cases to check:
- Open Microsoft Word and start SCIPROOF Scientific Dictionary Package (SDP) Beta - installation should stop with "please close all Microsoft Applications" message.
- Close Word and start installer and the wizard will guide you through the installation process.
- If you have "Prompt to save Normal template" option checked (Word > TOOLS > Options > 'Save'-tab > 'Save options'-section) then the wizard will suggest to restore settings during installation. At this point the prompt to save 'Normal.dot template should be shown by Microsoft Word.
At the last step of installation, the installer will open www.sciproof.com/sdp-oninstall.html page and the SDP Test Document (if appropriate options were checked on the final page of installation).
- If the installation was successful, then the SDP toolbar with the following buttons should be installed on the Word toolbar:
- SDP Example - opens SDP Example document
- SDP Options - opens SDP options dialog
- About SDP - displays About dialog
- SDP Home - goes to www.sciproof.com site
- If the installation was successful, then the following SDP dictionaries should be shown in the list of custom spelling dictionaries (Word > TOOLS > Options > Spelling and Grammar > Custom Dictionaries).

- The "Uninstall SDP" application icon will be placed on your desktop.
- The "SDP" program group folder (with "Uninstall SDP" shortcut inside) should be created in Start > All Programs.
- The "SDP Beta win32" entry should be created in Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs.
- Check the main functionality:
- Click the "About SDP" button to activate a dialog that contains a description of SDP.
- Click the "Test Document" button to open the SDP Test Document. Activate the spellchecker (Word > Tools > Spelling and Grammar) and follow the instructions in the Test Document.
- Click the "SDP Options" button to display the options dialog. The following dictionaries should be listed in the 'Active Dictionaries' list:
- Dictionary_1 [good]
- Dictionary_2 [good]
- Dictionary_3 [good]
Please note that all dictionaries should be tagged by the [good] mark. If there is different tag ([invalid] for example) or no tag, this indicates that an error occurred - please report it.
- Click the "SDP Home" button to open SCIPROOF (www.sciproof.com) web site.
- Check uninstallation. There are several cases to check:
- Open Microsoft Word and start uninstaller - uninstallation should stop with "Please close all Microsoft Applications" message.
- Close Word and start uninstaller and the wizard will guide you through the uninstallation process.
- If you have "Prompt to save Normal template" option checked (Word > TOOLS > Options > 'Save'-tab > 'Save options'-section) then the wizard will suggest to restore settings at the last step of uninstallation. At this point, the prompt to save 'Normal.dot template should be shown by Microsoft Word.

- If the uninstallation is successful, then the following SDP dictionaries should NOT be shown in the list of custom spelling dictionaries (Word > TOOLS > Options > Spelling and Grammar > Custom Dictionaries).

Results

- Your name and e-mail address.
- Your beta-testing report.
- Your version of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
IMPORTANT: If any of the test items failed, please let us know and provide the SDP Diagnostic Report with detailed description of the problem:
- Download SCIPROOF Diagnostic Utility for SDP and save it localy.
- Run the Diagnostic Utility - the wizard will guide you through the process.
- Include a detailed description of the problem in the e-mail with the attached diagnostic report and send.
